Vuoristorata was the first rollercoaster in Finland when it opened in 1951, for Linnanmäki's second season of operation. It was built from the blueprints of Bakken's Rutschebanen. Did you know that at that in 1951, Vuoristorata and Rutschebanen were the two tallest rollercoasters in Europe?
Vuoristorata was built using an old wooden coaster building technology with "side friction" style trains. That means that the trains have only single wheel in a set while the modern woodies have 2 wheels in a set. Vuoristorata is among a few of the side friction rollercoasters still in operation. It also meets the criteria to be rated an American Coaster Enthusiast-classic, that is given to old wooden rollercoasters with for example safety bars locking just to a single position and flat benches in the trains, which aren't divided to two different seats.
