Balder is Liseberg's new leading attraction. It cost 100 million SKR to build (10,9 million €), so it's the most expensive rollercoaster in the Nordic Countries.
A special feature of Balder is the 70 degree steep first drop, which is the steepest ever in a wooden coaster. It also features many hills that give the passengers a feeling of weightlessness, 10 to be excact. These two things made the worldwide coaster fans vote Balder the best wooden rollercoaster in the earth in 2003.
Balder has been built with a special track connecting system. The wooden track was prefabricated and constructed in pieces at Intamin's factory, and then in Liseberg the pieces had just to be plugged together. (aka Plug & Play coaster). This is the same system that is used when building steel coasters and it makes the trains run smoother on the track. Balder is the second wooden coaster where this system was used, the first was Colossus in Heide Park.
