17.7.2006The Liseberg accident

As you may have heard there was an accident at the Swedish park Liseberg on Saturday. Two trains at Lisebergbanan collided at the station. 7.7.2006Lintsi 2007

Linnanmäki is planning to build a new rollercoaster for 2007. According to their description the attraction would be 25,4 m tall, 142 m long, have a top speed of 60 km/h, made in Switzerland, cost 3-4m ? and have three 8-passenger trains where the passengers are seated on the sides of the track.

I know what you're thinking - this must be the Ball Coaster presented at EAS 2005, but the park also mentioned that it's trains would resemble a pen somehow. I have no idea what this is about, maybe a version of the mysterious Ball Coaster with upgraded trains?

The park sent in the application for the construction today. They believe that there won't be any problems in granting it, so we'll treat the ride as "almost confirmed" for the time being.

The coaster would be called Kirnu, "Churn" and would be placed between the funhouse Vekkula and Linnanmäki's performance stage.

20.6.2006Divo Ostrov's insane lineup!

Two months ago we reported about four new attractions coming to Divo Ostrov this summer. Well, they've got six in total!

These are:
-Big Starflyer (72m?) called Saturn
-S&S Screaming Squirrel "Forzazh"
-Screming Swing "Krylatye Kachely"
-Martian themed dak ride
-A Booster style ride transliterated into "Buster", I couldn't identify the manufacturer
-Pay per ride style Catapult, which seems to be free

Soo, it isn't difficult say that east is the new way to go for enthusiasts! More coverage from St. Petersburg will probably be here some time during 2007...

24.4.2006New style Screaming Squirrel for St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg's largest park, Divo Ostrov, will introduce a new version of S&S's Screaming Squirrel this year. It'll be the first one to feature horizontal turns. The track will consist of just two S-shaped drops and four 180° curves, so it's really short even compared to the original model. The ride is going to be called Afterburner.

The park also mentions that there's three other new attractions coming this year, Booster, Saturn and Catapult - however it's unknown what excactly these are.

28.3.2006Helsinki-Pyörä goes to Tykkimäki

Linnanmäki's old ferris wheel has been sold to Tykkimäki, so it'll stay in Finland. The city of Lappeenranta was also planning to buy it, but apparently the amusement park outbid them. The initial price for the ride was about 100 000?, but the final value remains a secret. The ride will however be held in storage for the following season.

5.10.2005Tivoli gets permission to build Starflyer at last

13.9.2005Fame World and Djurs Sommerland news

As we have reported here earlier Fame World is in a bad financial position, the debts is now 56 million SEK. Takeover talks is ongoing so hopefully someone will buy Fame World and clear the debts.

Djurs Sommerland has written on their website that they will make one of their biggest investment for many years for the 2006 season. Nojespark will follow the development and will report about Djurs Sommerland again when their 2006 investment have been confirmed.

9.9.2005This week's news in Scandinavia

The news this week from the Scandinavian parks is that Copenhagen's Tivoli has been denied to build a 80 m high ride. The ride they were trying to get was a Funtime Starfyer. The locals protested and the city listened to them.

The other news comes from Sweden. The new amusement park called Fame World, which was opened in July 2nd 2005, is already near bankruptcy. The park is situated right next to Skara Sommarland. The current owner has debts of 23 MSEK for payments to companies that built the park. Expressen has written one article in Swedish that tells the whole history about Fame World.

29.8.2005Liseberg's future

Liseberg has now for a while been looking to add a new section to the amusement park. They've had plans for expanding the park to the parking area behind Rainbow, which would increase the size of the amusement area by 3,3 ha. A new P-hall would be built in the southern corner of the area to compensate the loss of parking spaces.

Link to the application sent in 15.3.2004 (Swedish)

7.7.2005SpeedMonster - Intamin Accelerator for 2006

It's official - Tusenfryd have now announced what is going to be one of the new top coasters in Scandinavia. The coaster is called SpeedMonster, and it is indeed an Intamin accelerator which was rumoured earlier. It will cost an estimated 60 million crowns (7.5 million ? or 9 million $ or 5 million £)

SpeedMonster has a very unique layout, which contains three inversions and 7 spots of airtime in total. It begins with a prezel-shape loop, which is built around the escalators leaving from the park's entrance. It takes you twice upside-down twice, and its second park is similiar to Storm Runner's "Cobra Loop". After that you'll go to a wide turn, which leads into an airtime hill, then a corkscrew hill and after them there are still two different corkscrews and the final turn to go.

It is nothing like Kanonen or Rita, the ride is more like an alternative version of Hershey Park's Storm Runner. The ride looks to be very photogenic, with the huge loop dominating it's appereance and a long straight section on the background. Its colours suit the landscape very well, and in general SpeedMonster seems to be just the perfect addition to Tusenfryd's ride lineup.

In any case, this will absolutely be one of the most intresting constructions to follow in 2006, even though I have the strangest feeling, that there are still some rides remaining to be announced. We'll see!

22.4.2005Tusenfryd and Gröna Lund

The coasterboom in Scandinavia is never stopping! Two new rides are rumoured to be added during the next few years.

First off is Tusenfryd, who have announced that they will make their single largest investion in 2006. So it should be something that can top even Thundercoaster, very likely a big steel coaster of some sort. Nothing more has been said about the project at the moment, but it sure will be a very intresting development to follow.

And a little fresher new is, that the Swedish city centre park Gröna Lund is hoping to expand on a new area within the next three years. The attraction manager Peter Osbeck says, that if they are able to acquire some of the nearby Tyrolerentré's parking places, the park would like to build a new rollercoaster among other things there. There have been some rumours about an Intamin accelerator floating around.

1.4.2005Tornado stays

It appears that the removal of Liseberg's classic flat ride Tornado was just a wild rumour. The ride will still be operating in Göteborg this season.

21.3.2005 Bakken opens their gates again

On the 19th of march Bakken opened to the public for the 423rd time in the history. Unlike it was rumoured, Fireball was not removed from the park after all, which is of course great news for the flat ride fans.

There was no sign of a Tower Coaster either, as the ride has now been delayed for a year until 2006.

22.2.2005

Liseberg's old Vekoma Invertigo is making a return to the Scandinavia. The coaster was bought by a Greek amusement park company who have now sold it to - who else than - Sommerland Syd in Tinglev, Denmark. The ride was on sale at a list price of 1,75 million ?.

The park will be advertising it as Denmark's wildest coaster and they should have all rights to it - after all it will be the fastest (81 km/h), tallest (49 m) and the first inverted coaster on the country.

HangOver photos from Liseberg

18.2.2005New coaster for Denmark

The Danish family park Sommerland Syd says it's opening the country's wildest rollercoaster for the upcoming season. They haven't published any more information about the project at the moment, but we will propably know more as soon as the park launches an updated website.

The coaster will cost up to 45 million danish crowns, which is 6 million euros at the current rate. So we're not talking about any small ride here!

30.1.2005Tivoli is spreading the brand

Copenhagen's Tivoli may well be on its way for becoming an international amusement park chain.

Tivoli's designers and managers have for some time been running an international branch of the company, called Tivoli International A/S. Tivoli International can be consulted for jobs ranging from market research or park management to designing new amusement parks from scratch.

Right now there is just a single park designed by Tivoli International operating in the world, which is Kurashiki Tivoli Park in Japan. The park contains many similarities to the original Tivoli, such as a clone of the Zierer ride Monsoon and the famous mini-trams. It also contains lots of Danish national symbols and architechture.

Recently there have been also many other projects reported over the internet. These include amusement parks in Poland, Estonia, Greece and also Italy and Korea. The role Tivoli International is playing in these projects is the overall designing - the investment and park management would quite likely be leaved to the locals.

Some news articles:
Project in Tallinn, Estonia
Project in Gdansk, Poland

You should remember that these parks are still only at a planning phase. However it seems possible that a park in Poland and Tallinn may go further than just being drawings on the table, for example Tallinn's city had acquired some land needed for the project (6 ha) already in June 2004.

More info about Tivoli International A/S here: http://www.tivoli.dk/composite-615.htm

2004:

30.11.2004Powerpark rumours

There have been lots of rumours regarding the Finnish Powerpark in the internet for the past few months.

Some time ago Powerpark told that they are looking to add a Vekoma Boomerang and two small rides next year. The Boomerang would be an upgraded model of the basic Vekoma ride, with redesigned trains and possibly some other improvements. Boomerang of course, is a high but short looping rollercoaster found from Tivoliland and many other locations in the world. There was no sign of the coaster's construction in late december 2004.

From this page you'll find early 2005 construction photos from Alahärmä...

For 2006 the plans are even wilder. They are told to be building a large wooden coaster, with a 1 kilometer track and two trains. It would be built by the american manufacturer GCI, who is considered to be the Mercedes Benz of woodies. Apparently GCI's booth in the IAAPA convention (held between 17. - 20. november in USA) had some kind of information regarding the wooden coaster project.

GCI woodie in Six Flags America, photo by Olof Sornmo

If these two coasters will be opened, it's clear Powerpark will establish a firm position among the top nordic parks in the coming years.

Update (18.1.2005): A ride which I had hyped a lot here, Flying Fury, is not likely going to be added to Powerland after all, so some parts were removed from the story. However the other additions are semi-confirmed now.

25.11.2004Bakken adds two rides

For the upcoming season, the Danish Bakken is planning to add two more rides to replace Fireball. link to story

The plan is to build a 20m tall SBF Visa Tower Coaster, with a 6-meter tall loop and an extremely steep first drop. SBF have sold one model of the tower coaster before, Cool and Fresh, that has been travelling the European funfairs since 2003. Though the coaster is quite simple, its first drop will be the second steepest in the world in 2005.

Bakken has also announced buying an SBF Visa Super Jumper, which is a family spinning ride combining Polyp and Supertelecombat.

The new rides will likely be placed to the spot the Coffee cups and Fireball will leave empty if they're removed from the park.

Update (6. February 2005): It has been reported, that the Tower Coaster may be delayed with a year, and be opened in 2006 instead

10.9.2004Kanonen update

You will now find lots of information related to Liseberg's new Intamin coaster Kanonen from the park's official website. link

Here are also some 3d pictures of Kanonen:
www.nojespark.net/liskanonencon

8.9.2004Liseberg gets a launched rollercoaster!

The latest news from Sweden is that Liseberg will get a major new rollercoaster for 2005, just two years after Balder's opening.
Read the news here (in Swedish language).

It will be a launched coaster, where the train is accelerated from 0 to 75 km/h in just a few seconds. The coaster will feature "many twists and a loop through the 500m course". Now with these layout descriptions it seems quite likely this is going to be an Intamin Rocket Coaster. For pictures of the previous Rocket Coaster installations, see this page.

The rollercoaster has a project name Kanonen. The station will be placed at the spot of the current Top Spin.

Nöjespark Net will of course follow the construction of this great new coaster.

5.9.2004Frisbee's last run in Särkänniemi

The Finnish amusement park Särkänniemi had their season finale this saturday. The park was open for an extra one hour, and the season's ending was celebrated with a fireworks show.

This was also likely the last day Särkänniemi's Frisbee was operating for the public. The Huss Frisbee was on rent from a German travelling funfair, and it now has to be returned after the rent expired. Frisbee was first introduced in the season 2000 and was then planned to operate just 3 seasons in the park. After the season 2002 the loan contract was however renewed for two extra seasons. While it could be possible the contract would be renewed again this year, some brochures and the web site of Särkänniemi have mentioned that Frisbee is leaving after this season.

On other news, the clearing of land near Troika has already been underway for a few weeks now. Some of Särkänniemi's kiddie rides will be relocated near Troika, in order to make room for the new coaster with a project name "Volare". The rearrangement of Särkänniemi's rides and the construction of Volare is supposed to take place this fall.

23.8.2004Nojespark.Net is online!

After working on this website all summer, I'm proud to announce it is finally up & running. I've written brief descriptions of all the different ride models made by each manufacturer. You can view the technical data and photos from almost every big amusement ride in Scandinavia and Finland, and there's some useful basic information of the largest amusement parks as well.

However, as these pages have just been published, there are still many typing errors, bad english and possibly broken links here. I'll try to get to that very soon.

- Lauri Ranta, Admin

Still to be added in future:
- Much larger video clip pages
- "About me"-page
- Park guides of Tusenfryd and some small amusement parks
- Better descriptions on the park guide-pages
- Construction pics of the new rides for 2005
- And more photos of course

26.9.2004Särkänniemi reveals the new attraction for 2005

On the 24th of July the Finnish newspaper Aamulehti reported, that Särkänniemi is planning to by a Volare flying rollercoaster from Zamperla. The construction is due to begin this fall. Volare would be the third flying rollercoaster in Europe and the first in the Nordic countries. Flying coaster means a rollercoaster that is ridden lying down and facing the ground.

Volare will be placed in the "Ipanaario" area of Särkänniemi, which at the moment contains rides for the children. The childrens' rides will be relocated to Troika's spot and near the dark ride Orlochlessin Torni. Then that again would mean they would have to move Troika away to some other location. I edited an aerial photo to represent an imaginary ride arrangement of Särkänniemi in 2005.

Volare takes just as little ground space as Särkänniemi's old Schwarzkopf Jet Star coaster. It is about 400 m long, 15 m high and has two inversions. Volare's trains can only fit 4 passengers each. The layout is designed by the coaster guru Werner Stengel.

The news was reported by the newspapers Aamulehti and Tamperelainen.
