Särkänniemi

Särkänniemi, located in the city of Tampere, is the top rollercoaster park in the Scandinavia with more major rollercoasters than in any other park. They also have two big water rides and a zoo, dolphinarium, aquarium, observation tower, planetarium and an art museum. Each year Särkänniemi attracts around 700000 visitors, making it the second most attended amusement park in Finland.
New for this year is the Zamperla flying coaster, Trombi. It's the first of its kind in Scandinavia. Unfortunately the flat rides Sky Flyer and Frisbee were both removed from the park during off-season, but hopefully there'll be some replacements coming out next year.
New for 2006 will be a Huss Take-Off. Pictures here

History:
In the early 70's Särkänniemi was already a well known attraction in Tampere, but then it consisted of the observation tower Näsinneula, an aquarium, and a planetarium, which were operated by the city of Tampere. Särkänniemi's first amusement rides, including a wooden wild mouse, operated in 1973 and 1974 and were owned by a travelling Finnish funfair. In the year 1975 the management of the park was given to Children's Day-foundation, which is the charity foundation operating Linnanmäki. During those years several old rides from Linnanmäki were moved to Särkänniemi, but when the cooperation with the foundation ended in 1984, those rides were moved to the newly formed amusement park Tykkimäki. The observation tower Näsinneula along with other original attractions are still in use.Trip planning:
