Skara Sommarland


Skara Sommarland is a family park located near Skara, about 150 kilometers from Göteborg towards Stockholm. It is probably the largest summerland-park in the nordic countries, with almost 400 000 visitors each year. It also contains a waterpark.

Built by Bert Karlsson and opened 1984. Lots of money was invested in the park. In the year 1993 it fell into bankruptcy, and after that some different owners operated the park before it was sold to Park & Resorts Scandinavia during 2001.

Skara Sommarland has had the only Stand-Up Coaster ever operating in Scandinavia.

History:

Skara Sommarland opened 1984 and was built by Bert Karlsson. For the first 7 years, big investments was made every year. For the 1987 season 45 million SEK was invested.Berg-o-dal-banan was one of the new rides that year. 1988 the StandUp-coaster was bought for 50 million SEK. 1989 the Tivoliland area was built. 1990 Köpstaden (a shopping centre) opened. 4 new rides was added to the Tivoliland area. 1993 the original company that owned Skara Sommarland was bankrupt. During 1994 StandUp was sold. 1997 Sommarland started to expand again. A wave swinger was bought. 1998 Berg-o-dal-banan was rebuilt as Gruvbanan. Since 1999 most of Skara Sommarlands investments has been for kids. Although 2003 the Flume Ride, Newton was built and Airboat was bought for 2004.
